100,000 people in the streets

More than 100,000 people took to the streets in Glasgow to call on world leaders to act boldly on climate change.

People from all over the world have descended on COP26, (including yours truly), to the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference.

The message to world leaders is loud and clear: The goal must be to get to net-zero emissions by 2030.

We need a nation to step up and accept the 2030 challenge. If one nation would take on the 2030 challenge and show other countries it can be done—others will follow!

If bold and decisive actions are not taken now, temperatures could rise to 2.7C. That would be a calamity of unknown magnitude. We're already experiencing droughts, fires, severe storms, and a rapidly-warming climate.

There have been a few positive developments so far during the conference. There's been a commitment made by more than 100 nations, including Brazil, to end deforestation by 2030. But we need countries to go even further—and commit to net-zero emissions by 2030.

But this week, the real wrangling begins with 200 nations negotiating how far they're willing to go to reduce carbon emissions. And there still has yet to be an agreement on the $100 billion pledge made by the wealthiest nations that pollute the most, to help the 46 poorest countries combat the climate crisis.

There has never been a more critical moment for the world—a time when more people are calling out to save the Earth for social justice than ever before. Listen-up government decision-makers: Fighting the climate crisis is the biggest challenge of our time. Be Bold!

The goal must be to get to net-zero emissions by 2030. Keeping the rise of global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius will be hard, but anything less will not move us towards reversing the damage that's already been done.
